Artist Statement
Philosophy The use of Gesture-whether
implied or real-is intrinsic to my art.
I am interested in engaging the viewer by creating psychological aspects of an
image through a kinesthetic sense. Visually, I feel gesture can be used to
convey expression as well as a means of transmitting information. I then choose
to reveal all of the image, conceal part of the image, or reveal some aspects
of it, creating additional psychological aspects and feelings. Combining gesture with what is implied, revealed,
and hidden creates a sense of mystery and interest in the image that involves
the viewer.
Materials I have found my
concept of two-dimensional art expanded to include whatever materials are
necessary for expression.
Whether
utilizing mediums conventionally, or in combination with other materials, the
process is secondary to the final outcome. Particularly when creating
computer-based imagery, I try to capitalize on the medium rather than trying to
imitate another material. My choice of materials and surfaces is based solely
on achieving the desired expressive result.
